The team at Mortimers can turn the daunting thought of purchasing a diamond into an enjoyable, memorable experience, offering insight and advice, within a relaxed environment.
The diamond industry grades and categories diamonds based on the “four C’s” :
Cut
Cut is probably the most important, and most challenging, of the four Cs to understand. The skill with which a stone is cut determines the amount of fire and light it emits and the brilliance of a diamond depends heavily on its cut. Diamond shapes include Emerald, Princess, Heart, Radiant, Marquise, Round, Oval and Pear.
Clarity
Most diamonds contain some inner flaws, or inclusions, that occur during the formation process. The visibility, number and size of these inclusions determine what is called the clarity of a diamond.
Colour
Colourless diamonds are the most desirable since they allow the most refraction of light.
Carat Weight
A carat is the unit of weight by which a diamond is measured. Because large diamonds are rarer than smaller ones, the price of a diamond rises exponentially to its size.
